A Fox n Monkey …

Once upon a time, the lion, king of the forest, wished to transform his kingdom into an ideal realm where all creatures lived in harmony, wisdom, and mutual respect. He believed that true change must begin with the young. If the children were taught properly, the future of the forest would be secure.

So he called for a grand assembly of all the animals.

“Education sharpens intelligence. It guides behavior. It builds character,” declared the lion. “From tomorrow onward, every young one in this forest must receive proper learning.”

At once, the fox stepped forward. “Send all the children to me. I will educate them and make them capable,” it announced confidently.

The smaller animals felt uneasy. The elders exchanged knowing glances. The fox sensed their hesitation and felt insulted.

“Who will be the teacher then?” the fox asked with a tone of sarcasm.

“The monkey would be best,” suggested the tiger respectfully. “This is my humble request.”

“Teach them tricks and antics?” the fox mocked.

The monkey felt hurt, but remained silent. The lion spoke calmly. “The monkey is wise and thoughtful. He understands right from wrong. A teacher who instills values creates gems out of children. Therefore, I appoint the monkey as the teacher.”

The fox objected immediately. “For carnivores, hunting is the real education. If they stop to think about right and wrong, they will starve. Physical strength is what matters most.”

At that moment, the rabbit stepped forward gently. “Finding food is an individual need. But wisdom benefits everyone. Strength may protect one body. Intelligence protects the whole community. If we want an ideal forest, we must nurture intellect.”

The other animals agreed. They wanted their children to gain wisdom, not just muscle.

The lion was deep in thought when suddenly a bear came rushing in with alarming news. “A group of hunters has entered the forest with weapons!”

The fox seized the moment. “Now is the time to use strength. Let the powerful animals attack them.”

But the monkey calmly raised his voice. “Trust me. Return to your shelters quietly. I will protect you.”

The lion and the animals understood that this was the real test. They disappeared into hiding. The fox stayed back, eager to prove its belief in strength.

The monkey quickly climbed a tall tree and shook its branches violently. At the top of the tree hung a large beehive. It trembled. The monkey leaped to another tree, then another, moving swiftly away.

Disturbed and enraged, the bees swarmed toward the hunters. Within moments, the hunters were overwhelmed. Unable to withstand the furious attack, they fled in panic.

The fox, foolishly trying to display its strength against the bees, was soon attacked. Unable to endure their stings, it ran desperately. From a distance, the monkey shouted advice. “Hide in the thick bushes. It will protect you.”

Following the monkey’s guidance, the fox barely saved its life.

In that painful moment, the fox understood the true power of intelligence. Strength alone could not save it. Wisdom had protected the entire forest.

The next day, before all the animals, the lion officially declared the monkey as the teacher of the forest. Even the fox bowed in agreement.

From that day forward, true education began in the forest.

Not education of claws and fangs.

But education of thought, judgment, and wisdom.

For in the end, strength may win battles — but intelligence saves worlds.
